Unit 732's Championship Untainted Says Commish

Owners will not be asked to vacate title

Tokyo — March 5, 2026

Reigning champions Unit 732, now known as the Japana Bananas, will not face any consequences for Series MVP Jurickson Profar's failed drug test, as per a statement released by the PPBL Commissioner.

Since the revelations of Unit 732 championship MVP Jurickson Profar's failed drug test, many have called the 2025 PPBL title series between Unit 732 and the Springfield Crackers a sham. In a series of leaked chats, Russo Bakery GM Nick Cummings demanded the title be vacated, and Crackers GM Drew Lang sought the return of the title caps and a session of all night torah as reparations for allowing what many consider to be a tainted championship series to occur.

Commissioner Nicastro doesn't see eye to eye with the dissenters.

"What do you want from me? They played by the rules. Profar served a suspension mid-season and James & John held him the entire season and it paid off in the playoffs."

And pay off it did. Profar hit 5 HRs and stole 3 bases in the two-week championship series. Based on available waiver players and existing bench slots, had Profar not returned in time for the playoffs, Unit 732 would have lost, 3-6, giving the Crackers a second straight title. Commissioner Nicastro has denied his public hatred of the Crackers as reason for his stance.

Other theories for his position on the matter involve the windfall of ad revenue the PPBL saw last year, as well as a spark in viewership. According to Sportcal data, PPBL had nearly double the viewers of A-Team Football in 2025, a remarkable jump from 2024.

"Our ratings were tremendous last year," says Nicastro. "People come up to me and they say, 'Chris, your ratings are too good,' can you believe that? Too good. We've got tons of new sponsors this year, too. I'm taking big tobacco money, I don't even care. They got money and I'm not too good for it."
